Lynbrook High School junior Kimberly Vaz won second place in the Area 8 Rotary Club Richard D. King annual youth speech contest held Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at the Los Gatos Lodge in Los Gatos, Calif.
Los Gatos High School junior Olivia Flechsig took first place.
The other participating students included one who is home schooled in Campbell, while the others attended Los Gatos High School in Los Gatos, Homestead High School in Cupertino and Fremont High School in Cupertino.
The students each gave five-minute speeches on the theme "reaching within to embrace humanity." To participate in the contest, the students had each won in their school's respective Rotary club competitions.
